Loess Hills Scenic Byway
Lewis and Clark State Park, IA

Lewis and Clark used a keelboat to haul most of their supplies up the Missouri River. It was moved by sail, oar, poles, and towlines pulled along the shore. Replicas of it and one of the explorers' smaller boats are at this site where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark stopped 200 years ago. Once visitors have explored the keelboat, a picnicking haven awaits in the state park. There are 30 acres of picnic area in the park.

The park is located on the shore of Blue Lake, which is an oxbow lake created by a cut-off section of the Missouri River.
