Special Considerations
Highway 16 is suitable for motor homes and trailers. It has less steep gradients (7%) and fewer switchbacks than popular alternate routes. However, check with local authorities regarding the suitability of your vehicle and load for current road conditions.
Service stations are not found on the byway itself. Service your vehicle in the nearby towns.
A popular route, the byway is open for travel year-round (the interstates are closed more than Route 16 is!). The road travels through wild areas, so please watch carefully for wildlife crossing the road.
Restrictions
Winter conditions may close sections of the route for short periods of time, but this is rare.
