Great River Road - Arkansas
Lake Village, AR
Lake Village on the shore of Lake Chicot became the fourth county seat of Chicot County in 1857. The first two, Villemont and Columbia, were washed away by the shifting course of the Mississippi River, and the third one, Masona, was too far from the river for business activity.
In 1923 American aviation history was made at Lake Village. Charles Lindbergh, then an unknown aviator, made his first night flight from a nearby cotton field, enroute from St. Louis to Houston.
Lake Village has an outstanding Museum of Chicot County, along with a number of structures on the National Historic Register.
