Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway
Lava Lands Visitor Center, OR

The Lava Lands Visitor Center's displays focus on central Oregon geology, archeology, and wildlife.

On-site naturalists are available throughout the day to answer questions and lead guided walks. Two short self-guided interpretive trails leave from the patio of the center and explore the volcanic landscape and nearby forest.

Lava Butte rises 500 feet above the visitor center. This Newberry cinder cone erupted 7,000 years ago and produced over nine square miles of lava. The butte offers a spectacular view of the Cascade Range and the west flank of Newberry Volcano.
