Special Considerations

The entire byway is on paved road and can be traveled by all automobiles and recreational vehicles. Drivers should use caution and common sense when attempting to travel any of the unpaved roads off of the byway. Side roads can become extremely soft and slippery during wet weather and are not recommended for 2-wheel drive vehicles at these times. Although services are available in Gateway, Norwood, Naturita, and Placerville, keep a careful eye on your gas gauge. Cellular service in this area of the country is also spotty. Make sure you have enough water and other provisions to travel between communities.

Restrictions

During wet weather, 2-wheel vehicles are advised to stay off the side roads, because these can become very soft and slippery.
