The Mt. Evans Wilderness Area's close proximity to Denver allows visitors a chance to view a one-of-a-kind arctic tundra area. About 67 miles of trails provide access to the wilderness area which boasts many small pools of water. Wildlife viewing is one of the more popular activities within the wilderness area. Here, visitors can see Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, ptarmigan, and other species of animals. Ancient Bristlecone pines remain in the area as well. The many miles of hiking trails, both easy and difficult, provide visitors a chance to experience the wilderness of Colorado. Hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding are all popular activities in the area.
