Special Considerations

This is a Type I road, meaning it is either paved or well-graded for the entire length of the byway.

January through March can be cold and snowy. The BLM maintains the road and key access points with a snow plow and places cinders on hills and sharp turns as needed.

The average elevation is just under 8,000 feet.
