El Camino Real
San Andres National Wildlife Refuge, NM
Established in 1941, San Andres National Wildlife Refuge provides important habitat for desert bighorn sheep, a State-listed endangered species. Over 150 species of birds have been documented on the refuge, which is also home to desert mule deer, javelina, and mountain lions. The refuge is closed to the public because it is surrounded by White Sands Missile Range.
