Special Considerations

  • You must have a Northwest Forest Pass to park at trailheads. See naturenw.org for details.
  • You must have a permit to stay overnight in backcountry. Get these from any ranger station.
  • You must take the ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo to complete the byway. Check out these fees at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries

Restrictions

A 50-mile section between Mazama and Newhalem on Highway 20 is closed from approx. mid-November to mid-April.

All seasons are spectacular here, but the fall is especially stunning. The leaves are turned from Sept. until Oct. Call 800-354-4595 for updates.
