Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway
Dubois, WY

Dubois sits at the foothills of the Wind River Range at an elevation of 6,900 feet. It is a full-service community in western Wyoming, comprised of frame and log buildings on the bank of Horse Creek. When it was first settled in 1886, Dubois was little more than a post office. At the turn of the century, the vast forests surrounding the town became valuable for timber to support the railroad industry. As a result, loggers flocked to the region to harvest the timber and transport it to the railroad via the Wind River.

After the end of the railroad era, Dubois became a prime destination for big game hunters. Hunters found a plethora of game, including elk, moose, deer, and bighorn sheep in the Dubois area.
