Special Considerations
Although cooler than Zion or St. George, Kolob Canyons still gets very hot in summer. Temperatures above 100 F are possible. There is some shade but no potable water along the road nor the hiking trails.
Restrictions
The byway is usually open. The road closes occasionally in winter due to severe snowstorms.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
Spring, summer, fall. Sunset is particularly beautiful as the sun shines directly on the redrock cliffs to the east.
- High Season
The parking lots, particularly the one at the top of the road, often fill up in summer.
