Special Considerations
The road climbs and winds gently through high-altitude meadows and forests. RVs and trailers that have navigated the steeper and curvier roads to get here from ANY direction should have no difficulty on this relatively level and straight route. Cedar Breaks National Monument is at approximately 11,000 feet. The road is closed to autos in winter, but snowmobilers and cross-country skiers are welcome.
Restrictions
Due to heavy snow, the byway is closed to regular traffic from mid-October through May. Cross-country skiers and snowmobiles are welcome.
Seasons
- Best Time to Drive
Summer is the best time to drive the byway. The wildflowers are wonderful in mid-July and early August, and the high-altitude's lower temperatures are a soothing relief from the often-blazing heat of the lower valleys.
- High Season
This byway is never very busy. The parking areas in Cedar Breaks rarely fill up, even in summer.
- Off Season
The byway is closed from mid-October to May due to heavy snowfall.
