Fishlake Scenic Byway (U-25)
There are no bike or pedestrian facilities along the byway it is a narrow two-way highway and not recommended for pedestrian or bike travel. There are many trails in the area though. There is a non-motorized 3-mile trail along Fish Lake starting at Lakeside Resort and ending at Bowery Haven Resort.
Fish Lake Basin Trails
- The Lakeshore National Recreation Trail
- This trail extends from Lakeside around the eastern side of the lake rising over 900 feet in elevation. Beautiful views of Fish Lake will make the hike worthwhile.
- Pelican Canyon Trail
- A 5 mile hike of moderate climbing to an elevation of 11,000 feet, the trail begins at Pelican Overlook and ends on the Fish Lake Hightop. Horses and mountain bikes are allowed, but ATVs are not.
- Fish Lake Hightop
- You can reach this from a number of trails. However, the Hightop itself is 8 miles of gently rolling terrain beginning south of Pelican Canyon and extending northeastward to the Sevenmile Cirques.
- Dr. Creek Trail
- This trail is a difficult 3-mile hike to Rust Springs and the Fish Lake Hightop.
- Rock Canyon
- A difficult 8 miles to an elevation of 11,300 feet, the trail begins from Sevenmile Road, ending at Tasha Springs, on the Hightop.
- The Crater-Ivy Canyon Trails
- The trail begins at Lake Creek and extends 10 miles to the UM trail. Branching off this trail, 5 miles from the trailhead, the Crater Loop Trail provides a shorter, 3-mile route to Mytoge Mountain. Both hikes include difficult climbing.
