Driving the Byway
From Salt Lake City:
- Take Interstate 15 south toward Provo. Turn east on U.S. 6 (Price). Turn east again on I-70 at Green River. About 20 miles later, turn south on U.S. 191. Just past Arches National Park and about one mile shy of Moab is the turnoff to this scenic byway.
The byway itself is one road, SR-279. It turns to gravel after 17 miles (when it reaches the Moab Salt plant.)
