Nebo Loop Scenic Byway
John Dixon Home, UT
The John Dixon Home at 218 North Main in Payson, Utah is the oldest home in the area of the Nebo Stake Tabernacle. A red sandstone home of the Richardsonian Romanesque style, it was built in 1893 for Payson's mayor, John Dixon, a wealthy livestocker.
The Dixon family lost the home during the Great Depression and it was broken up into apartments. In later years, it became a boys' home, and finally was bought in the early 60s by the Hill family for just $5,000. It is one of four buildings in Payson that is currently on the National Historic Registry. The foundation is 43 inches thick and the walls are made of 18-inch sandstone blocks that were quarried in Spanish Fork Canyon.
