Sheyenne River Valley Scenic Byway
Standing Rock State Historic Site, ND

Known as "Inyan Bosndata" by the Sioux Indians who consider it sacred, the four foot tall rock is an inverted cone shape which stands on a complex of prehistoric burial mounds dating from the Woodland Period (0-1400 A.D.). The explorers Fremont and Nicollet noted this landmark on their maps during their expedition of 1839, and it served as a landmark to early settlers as well.
