Best Time to Drive

The Turtle Mountain Scenic Byway is in the Four Seasons Playground of North Dakota, and the best time of the year for traveling depends on the traveler's interests and activities.

High Season

There is no particular month or season when visitors traveling the byway would be subjected to excessive crowds or traffic.

Winter

There can be temporary seasonal closures due to heavy snow in the winter months. However, since the byway is in the Four Seasons Playground area, winter visitation is expected and planned for. The roads are cleared as soon as possible.
