Special Considerations

Tour buses are welcome along the Byway; however, it is recommended that they detour these areas:

  • A one-mile long brick-paved segment of the National Road in Norwich
  • The Salt Fork S-Bridge east of Old Washington

These areas would suffer from the extra weight and wear caused by tour buses. Also in this part of the country, occassional heavy rain or snow fall may impair driveability. In most instances, the storms do not last long or result in lengthy road closures.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Summer/Fall, depending on which end (east or west) you will be spending most of your time.

Fall

There are more hills and fall colors on the eastern section of the byway.

High Season

Summer. There are many festivals in Ohio that occur during the summer season.

Summer

On the western section of the byway there is more agriculture so summer and late summer have the most picturesque fields.
