  • Start: Euphemia (Lewisburg)

    Euphemia was annexed by its southern neighbor, Lewisburg, and many historic buildings have been preserved. The town has museums, historical sites, parks, and a winery close by called the Valley Vineyards Winery.

  • Stop 1: Englewood Metro Park

    Directions from previous place:

    Take US 40 east out of Euphemia and follow it until you get to Englewood. Turn right on to Main St. The park will be on your left.

    The park contains a Pumpkin Ash/Swamp Forest (a State Natural Landmark), three waterfalls, the Aullwood Garden, and the Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm. Englewood has 12 miles of hiking trails, guided trail rides, picnicking, fishing, canoeing, bicycling, and cross-country skiing.

  • Stop 2: Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park

    Directions from previous place:

    Go south on Main St. until you see W. National Road on your left. Follow this road until it hits I 75. Take I 75 south and follow it until you get to Dayton. In Dayton take exit 53A toward 3rd St. Take a slight right onto W. 2nd St. and then a slight left onto Robert Dr. Turn right when you come to W. 3rd St. and then a left onto S. Williams St. Follow this street until you get to the Historical Park.

    This park has a collection of sites celebrating such people as the Wright brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar.

  • Stop 3: Taylorsville Metro Park

    Directions from previous place:

    From Dayton take I 75 north for 9.5 miles. Turn right onto the E. National Rd. and quickly left onto US 40. As you follow US 40 you will go right though the park.

    This expansive Metro Park includes the ruins of the pike town, Tadmor, and has many trails and chances to enjoy the Miami River. Other available activities include picnicking, fishing, sledding, cross-country skiing, and canoeing.

  • Stop 4: Madonna of the Trail Statue

    Directions from previous place:

    Take US 40 to Springfield. The statue will be on the left side of the road.

    The Madonna of the Trail Statue commemorates the "Pioneer Mother of the Covered Wagon Days." This is the first of eleven identical statues dedicated on July 4, 1928 by Judge (later President) Harry S. Truman.

  • Stop 5: Pennsylvania House

    Directions from previous place:

    Continue on US 40 until you get to N. Isabella St. and turn right. Turn right on to Main St. and go west until you see the house.

    The Pennsylvania House is a National Road tavern turned to museum.The museum, which features period furnishings and collections of dolls and buttons, holds a monthly open house.

  • Stop 6: Heritage Center of Clark County

    Directions from previous place:

    Go east on W. Main St. Turn left on N. Isabella St. Turn right onto W. Columbia St. Turn left onto S. Fountain St. and go until you see the Heritage Center.

    The Heritage Center contains a museum, stores, a research facility and historical archives. The Center provides an excellent introduction to local history and traditions.

  • End: Buck Creek State Park

    Directions from previous place:

    Go north on S. Fountain Ave. until you reach E. Columbia St., turn right. Take a left onto US 40 and follow it to N. Bird Rd. The road will become Buck Creek Ln. Follow this road until you reach the park.
