Chicago Heights had its place on the map in 1915 when the Lincoln Highway intersected there with the Dixie Highways. In 1916, a Memorial Fountain was erected in Chicago Heights by the Conservation Committee of the Arche Club of Chicago as a place of rest for cross-country travelers on the Lincoln Highway. Ths bust of Lincoln is flanked by several of his famous sayings. Today the city is still thriving and also preserving its heritage in the forms of historical buildings. Part of the Chicago Southland area, Chicago Heights features forest preserved and recreational trails amid an urban atmosphere.
