Special Considerations
Visitors may inquire at individual businesses for special accommodations. Several resorts employ multilingual students.
Restrictions
Heavy-load restrictions apply to commercial vehicles during spring thaw. Information about restrictions is available from the Cook County Highway Department. The roadway becomes snow-covered in winter, but is plowed and maintained year-round by the Cook County Highway Department.
The roadway has two lanes and a maximum speed limit of 50 MPH; curves and one populated area are marked at slower speeds. The main safety issue is driving over the speed limit. The byway is very scenic but has curves & hills requiring speed adjustment. Travelers driving the speed limit and adjusting speeds for weather-related road conditions encounter few safety issues, but should watch out for wildlife crossing.
