Enjoy this beautiful roadway and discover the many natural and historic sites which capture the essence of northeastern Minnesota and the surrounding wilderness. For this drive and stops, please allow 1.5 hours of driving time, one way (or 3 hours, round trip), and approximately 2 hours for stops. If you wish to hike any of the trails, allow extra time. The Gunflint Trail is a paved road, 57 miles in length, which begins in Grand Marais, Minnesota, ending at Gull Lake, at Trail’s End Campground. At Trail’s End Campground, drive the loop, and head back to Grand Marais. The drive is beautiful in all seasons. Snow-covered roadway conditions may be encountered from November through April. Mid-September through early October are best for fall color. During all seasons, watch for moose and deer on the roadway.
