The 64-mile Seminoe to Alcova Back Country Byway is set amidst a striking paradox of arid desert and some of the best water recreation in Wyoming! Take the byway from Alcova to Sinclair to explore the state’s geographically rich and recreationally varied south central region.
Gear up for your adventure at the byway’s north end in the town of Alcova. Alcova and Sinclair, at the byway’s south end, are the only towns along the byway offering services.
Get your first taste of the fun on the byway at Alcova Reservoir. Participate in the popular activities—boating, sailing, and fishing—or relax on the sandy beaches and at the restaurant off the marina. Even in winter, come for some chilly adventure and go ice fishing on the reservoir.
As you continue south, note the famous “Miracle Mile” stretch, which is actually seven miles, of the North Platte River. Fishermen flock to this “Mile” about midway along the byway hoping to catch their share of rainbow and brown trout.
Just south of the “Miracle Mile,” the Seminoe to Alcova Byway runs along the Seminoe Reservoir and Seminoe State Park. The steep road between the park and the “Mile” is best traveled in vehicles other than motor homes, but once you’re here, pitch a tent, enjoy the developed campground, and set off from the provided boat ramps to explore the reservoir’s waters.
When you reach the byway’s southern end, about 20 miles from Seminoe State Park, be sure to check out Sinclair, WY, where the byway ends. Stop for photos at the historic red-tile-roofed Parco Hotel and the Civil War era cannon in this town with a population of 500.
