Special Considerations

The road varies from Type I (paved) to Type II (gravel, maintained) to Type III. It is a two-lane to single lane route with pullouts for passing as it goes through the Seminoe Mountains. RV's and vehicles pulling trailers are cautioned to avoid the steep, winding middle section where the road climbs over the Seminoe Mountains. Be sure to fill your gas tank and carry plenty of food and water, as this is a remote area. In the summer, the drive can be quite hot.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

The byway may be safely driven by a normal touring car in favorable conditions, which generally last from May to early November. Snow usually closes the road over the Seminoe Mountains in winter.
