Driving the Byway

The byway travels through area close to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Visitors will be able to find the south end of the byway traveling from Asheville on US 19.

Driving the Byway:

  • The byway begins in Weaverville where travelers will exit US 19/23.
  • Travel the US 25/70 bypass towards Marshall.
  • Turn left at the first stoplight onto Monticello Road (SR 1727).
  • Continue on Monticello Road for three miles through a rural residential area until it ends at NC 251.
  • Turn right onto NC 251 near Alexander.
  • Continue on NC 251 as it meets with US 25/70 Business.
  • When you reach Marshall, turn left at the stoplight, cross the river and turn around in the school parking lot to your right. Come back across the river to get the best view of Marshall and its historic courthouse.
  • The byway ends in Marshall only a few minutes away from Walnut and the beginning of the Appalachian Medley Scenic Byway.
