Driving the Byway

From Raleigh, travel east on Highway 264. New Holland and the beginning of the byway begin off of highway 264.

Starting in New Holland, take N.C. 94 north to Columbia, on the Scuppernong River. On the way, you will pass Lake Mattamuskeet and wetland area. The communities of Fairfield, Gum Neck, and Frying Pan Landing are also located off N.C. 94.
At the traffic light in Columbia at U.S. 64 and N.C. 94, continue straight.
At the next block turn right onto U.S. 64 Business and drive through downtown.
Turn left onto U.S. 64 and continue east.
Cross the Alligator River to the community of East Lake, then continue on N.C. 64 to Mann's Harbor.
Cross the Croatan Sound on N.C. 64/264 to Roanoke Island and the end of the byway.
