Alaska's Marine Highway
Kodiak Island, AK

Kodiak, one of the nation's largest commercial fishing ports, was once the capital of Russian America as well as the first permanent settlement of Russian colonists. The community is located on Kodiak Island, a National Wildlife Refuge, allowing outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities.

The area is home to the award-winning Alutiiq Museum and Archeological Repository, the Baranof Museum and Russian Orthodox church, and the Kodiak Maritime Museum. It is pictureque, has great shops, and there are plenty of Kodiak bears to see in the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge.
