Driving the Byway
Getting to the Byway
From Greensboro:
- Travel north on U.S. 29 until the city of Monticello.
From Raleigh:
- Take U.S. 70 northwest to Durham.
Driving the Byway
- Beginning in Monticello, take N.C. 150 East to Williamsburg.
- Continue on N.C. 150 to Locust Hill.
- 1.5 miles past Locust Hill, turn right onto U.S. 158.
- Travel east on U.S. 158 until you reach Yanceyville.
- Turn right onto Main Street (S.R. 1163) in Yanceyville.
- Continue on Main Street until you are able to turn left onto N.C. 62.
- Stay on N.C. 62 until you reach the town of Milton.
- Turn right at the traffic light in Milton and take N.C. 57 south.
- At the community of Semora, turn right onto N.C. 119.
- Follow N.C. 119 south for four miles.
- From N.C. 119 the road rises and curves to the left. At this point, turn right onto S.R.1564 (Stephentown Road).
- Continue on S.R. 1564 for six miles.
- Turn right onto U.S. 158 and travel for two miles.
- Turn left onto N.C. 86 and travel south for 24 miles.
- N.C. 86 will pass through the communities of Hightowers and Prospect Hill.
- Just North of Hillsborogh, turn left onto S.R. 1619 (Governor Burke Drive).
- Stop and look carefully before crossing the tricky intersection at N.C. 57 where the road number changes to unpaved S.R. 1556.
- At the end of the road, turn right onto S.R. 1555 (Miller Road).
- Travel for 1.5 miles through a residential area to U.S. 70 Bypass.
- Continue straight across U.S. 70 until you are able to turn right onto S.R. 1002 (St. Mary's Road).
- S.R. 1002 becomes S.R. 1150 (East King Street).
- At the stop light, turn left on Churton Street (N.C. 86/U.S. 70).
- Cross the Eno River and turn left at the first light.
- Follow U.S. 70 Bypass East.
- Continue along U.S. 70 to the first traffic light and turn right on N.C. 751.
- The road then passes through Duke Forest to U.S. 15/501 in Durham where the byway ends.
