Driving the Byway

You can start the Plains Trail in Lubbock, Texas, although the Trail is designed so it can be started in stopped and traveled in any direction you like. From Lubbock you can head west on State Hwy. 114 and then north on 214 and then U.S. Hwy 70. Head north on Farm Road 1055 to U.S. Hwy 385 until you reach Channing and then head east on State Route 354 and then north on U.S. 87/287 to Dumas and go east on State Hwy. 152 to Stinnett and go south on Farm Road 687 to Sanford and then go on State Hwy. 136 to Borger and travel State Hwy. 207 to Panhandle and then west again on U.S. Hwy 60 and Hwy. 60/66 to Amarillo, continue to Interstate 27 to Canyon and then take State Hwy. 217 and go north on Farm Road 1541 and east on 1151 to Claude. Go south again on State Hwy. 207 to Silverton, take State Hwy. 256 then 10, 70 to Matador and continue on to Roaring Springs and head west again on Farm Road 684, 28, to U.S. Hwy 82 and then Farm Road 651, which you will follow to Post, it will change to Farm Road 669 and follow that to Gail, where you will go west a bit on U.S. Hwy. 80 and head north again on Farm Road 1054, 400, 251, 835, 1729 and 40 back to Lubbock.
