Coal Heritage Trail
Fayette Station Road, WV
Primarily a one-way route, the Fayette Station Road travels down into the gorge, crosses the river on the older bridge, and heads back up the mountain through a landscape lushly green with vegetation in summer and sometimes treacherous in winter. The road was first cut into the mountainside to provide a way in and out of the mining communities that lined the banks of the New River. The road offers breathtaking views of the gorge and of the underside of the New River Gorge Bridge.
