The Lakes to Locks Passage in eastern New York is famous for its seasonal beauty, and winter is surely not an exception. The former home of two Winter Olympic Games, the byway destination of Lake Placid features scenic snowmobiling trails. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of Lake Placid and the surrounding area as you brave the highest elevation on the East Coast on a snowmobile.

Also located along the byway, the Chestertown area of New York presents unrivaled snowmobiling trails. Wind through snow-covered evergreens as you explore New York's Adirondack mountains north of serene Lake George and ride the trail that goes through the towns of Brant Lake, Chestertown, Pottersville, and Warrensberg.

The township of Hague is located 15 minutes from the byway and hosts over 100 miles of immaculately groomed trails, each dotted with scenic pull-offs for picnics and pictures. Explore the region’s lakes and historic French and Indian War sites while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Adirondacks. Local clubs not only groom the trails, but sponsor a variety of activities from chili cook-offs to polar bear swims.

Located along the byway, Washington County hosts the annual Greenwich Uphill Races in Willard Mountain. Race up the terrain for prizes and a trophy, and take time to snowmobile along the area’s lakes and rolling hills.
