Snowmobiling the High Country on Logan Canyon Scenic Byway

Logan Canyon Scenic Byway - (Utah)

Experience winter as you have never done before. Snowmobile in Logan Canyon to discover all that the National Scenic Byway has to offer. Utah's Cache Valley snowmobile trails were ranked one of the fifteen top locations in America in SnoWest magazine’s 2006-2007 snowmobiling guide. Prepare to be amazed with the more than 180 miles of well-groomed trails that encompass the area as you fly along in the white world of winter.

Bring your snowmobile to Beaver Creek Lodge, just 13 miles west on the byway from Garden City, to start out on the Beaver Creek Trail. As a connection between the Utah and Idaho trail complexes, the Beaver Creek Trail is frequently used and groomed and is a great place to play in the powder. In addition to food, fuel, lodging, and restrooms, the lodge offers snowmobile rentals if you don't have your own machine.

Beginning and intermediate riders will find the nearby Amazon Trail a good place to start on their snowmobiling adventures. Part of the trail is heavily wooded, making it a great place to experience mountain riding. If you are looking for a more difficult trail, be sure to twist through the Garden City Trail. Look out for wintering wildlife such as mule deer or elk and keep your eyes open to catch a glimpse of the Bear Lake Valley, as you will be able to see some awesome views from the trail.

Local riders favor Sinks Trail because it is uncrowded and provides scenic views of the canyon. The trail heads south towards Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area from the Sinks Winter Sports Trailhead near the top of Logan Canyon and provides access to challenging hill climbing and play areas. Speaking of local favorites, the weekly-groomed Temple Canyon Trail is one of the region's best-kept secrets. Find deep powder fields and slopes along the trail and stop to watch wildlife near the eastern end of the trail.

A little further west along the byway towards Logan lies the Tony Grove Recreation Area. Winding between Logan Canyon and Tony Grove Lake, the Tony Grove Trail is an awesome place to catch up on mountain trail riding opportunities. Tony Grove Lake showcases this excellent play area, making it a popular snowmobiling destination.

Get ready for your trip by familiarizing yourself with Utah’s snowmobiling regulations. Utah treats snowmobiles as off-highway vehicles (OHV), so browse OHV Recreation at Utah State Parks for information about snowmobile registration, laws, safety guidelines and more. Visit Tour Cache Valley and Logan Ranger District for additional travel information, or download the region's Winter Travel Map (PDF).

Travel in the fresh snow along the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway. The best days to visit the byway for snowmobiling are Sunday through Friday as weekends tend to be more crowded. On these days it seems as if you have the canyon all to yourself. Snowmobiling adventures await you whether you start at Beaver Creek Lodge, the Sinks Trail or any of the other trails accessible from the byway. You will not be disappointed in the beautiful mountain views or the plentiful wildlife to be found along the trails.
