- 1. Why isn’t my byway or scenic drive listed on your site?
The staff of byways.org strive to gather and provide information on all designated byways in the United States. However, our focus is on America’s Byways, designated as National Scenic Byways and All-American Roads by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Additional information on State-designated byways is welcome and will be included on the website as resources become available. Roads that may be “scenic” but are not recognized by State or federal agencies are not listed on byways.org. You are welcome to contact our website team if you are aware of missing or inaccurate information.
- 2. Why can’t I find information about hotels, restaurants, etc. on your site?
The byways.org site is funded by the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. Government policies prevent us from endorsing specific places of business along byways. However, if a place has significant interest to the traveler aside from its commercial pursuits, such as it being a historical site, then it may be listed on byways.org.
Please use our Local Information contacts, or the Links page for a byway, if you want to find more information about these topics.
- 3. Why aren’t all byways “scenic?”
Our definition of “scenic” reaches beyond breathtaking vistas. All of America’s Byways(r) are “scenic,” representing the depth and breadth of scenery in America—natural and built panoramas; electrifying neon landscapes; ancient and modern history coming alive; native arts and culture; and scenes of friends, families and travelers sharing their stories.
America’s Byways are designated for at least one of these intrinsic qualities: archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational, and scenic. Each invites you to “Come Closer” and drive, ride, climb, hike, and learn on America’s Byways.
- 4. Can you help me plan my trip?
The National Scenic Byways Program cannot provide travel information beyond what is already provided on byways.org.
Please use the Local Information contacts on each byway’s page to obtain additional information on places you wish to visit.
- 5. Why should I sign up for an account on byways.org?
Interactive features of byways.org require you to register for an account and to provide us with your e-mail address. These features include submission of travel experiences, creation of Wish Lists, and submission of photos.
Please see our Privacy Policy for information on the usage of personal information related to an account.
